The new <em>Supra <\/em>was \ufb01rst shown to the public at the 2019 International Auto Show in Detroit, MI, USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The o\ufb03cial North American reveal for the 2020 <em>Supra <\/em>model (known as <em>GR Supra<\/em> globally) was in the form of a 60-second commercial advertisement shown February 3rd, 2019 during the TV coverage of Super Bowl LIII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"850\" height=\"478\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PhCwwBRgFRQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Toyota Super Bowl ad begins with the driver dropping in a quarter and hitting the &#8216;launch&#8217; button, then revving the engine of his silver-colored Supra before &#8216;launching&#8217; down a long, neon-lit roadway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The background music is <em>Pinball Wizard<\/em> from rock group The Who\u2019s 1969 opus, <em>Tommy<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <em>Supra <\/em>then makes its way onto a life sized single-level play\ufb01eld loaded with a number of obstacles, including a spinner, bumpers and light-up panels that the driver easily runs over. The &#8216;Wizard&#8217; TV commercial was created by Toyota\u2019s North American ad agency, Saatchi &amp; Saatchi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not the \ufb01rst time that Toyota has used a pinball theme in its television advertising. In 1985, Toyota introduced its MR-2 mid-engined sports car with a life-sized pinball themed advert. Despite the similarities between the two commercials, a Toyota spokesperson said that any resemblance is coincidental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"850\" height=\"638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TUC5wZbIB0o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>The 2020 Toyota<em> Supra<\/em> made its sporting debut February 16, 2019 at The <em>NASCAR Racing Experience 300<\/em>. This event is a supporting race for the 2019 Daytona 500 held annually in Daytona Beach, FL, USA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The highest finish by a NASCAR XFinity series Toyota <em>Supra <\/em>in the 2019 race was 3rd by Brandon Jones after Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Jeffrey Earnhardt (grandson of NASCAR Hall of Fame NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt), started his number 18 iK9 sponsored Toyota <em>Supra <\/em>on the pole position. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ironically the two drivers that finished the race ahead of Jones are teammates for JR Motorsports, which is owned by Jeffrey Earnhardt\u2019s uncle, Dale Earnhardt Junior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Toyota product display area at Daytona International Speedway, Toyota had a re-themed Williams <em>High Speed<\/em> pinball game that visitors to the display could play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"675\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pinballnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/toyota-supra\/02-toyota-supra-675x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The GR Supra conversion of High Speed\" class=\"wp-image-14976\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pinballnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/toyota-supra\/02-toyota-supra-675x1024.jpg 675w, https:\/\/www.pinballnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/toyota-supra\/02-toyota-supra-198x300.jpg 198w, https:\/\/www.pinballnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/toyota-supra\/02-toyota-supra-768x1165.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pinballnews.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/news\/toyota-supra\/02-toyota-supra.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px\" \/><figcaption>The GR Supra conversion of High Speed<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The re-theme was professionally done by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orangecountypinballs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Orange County Pinballs (opens in a new tab)\">Orange County Pinballs<\/a> and the graphics are very similar to the &#8216;game&#8217; used in the television commercial.
