RULES

Qualifying:

There will be 8 machines used for the tournament. Players may choose any 5 of them to play a single qualifying game.

After each game, the score is recorded on the player's card.  The top 3 players on each machine (24 in total) qualify for the play-offs.

Multi-player games or multiple games on the same machine are not allowed.

If a player achieves a qualifying position on more than one machine, their highest position and their lowest numbered machine's score counts, and all their other scores are disregarded. This may move players in positions 4 and below up into qualifying positions, so keep watching the displays to see if you're in the play-offs.

Qualifying begins as soon as possible after we open at 10am, and ends at 4pm. No more qualifying games can be started after 3:45pm. When all qualifying games have finished and the qualifiers announced, the first round of play-offs will begin.

It is your responsibility to make sure you play all your qualifying games in the time allowed. Don't leave it too late or you may run out of time. Seriously, we expect a lot of players this year, so play your games as early as you can.

The Play-Offs:

The play-offs consist of 'showdown-style', head-to-head, best-of-3 matches.

Players will play in pairs drawn at random at the start of each round.

Each player in the pair may choose 1 machine to play. The players play a 2-player game on both their chosen machines with the player not choosing the machine having the choice to play first or second.

The first player to win 2 games goes through to the next round. If both players win 1 game each, they should come back to the competition desk and they will be allocated a third, deciding machine with player order chosen by the toss of a coin. 

The 24 qualifiers will be reduced to 12 in the first round of play-offs, then 6 in the second round and then the last three who will play in the final.

The 3 losing players from the semi-finals will also play a single 3-player game on a randomly selected machine to determine overall 4th, 5th and 6th places.

The Final:

The Final takes the same form as the play-offs with each finalist able to choose a machine they wish to play.

A 3-player game is played on each of the 3 chosen machines. 

The same machine may be chosen by more than 1 player if they wish, and the player who chooses the machine plays first as player 1. Other players should decide 2nd and 3rd player places so everyone plays in each position once during the final.

When the game on each machine is over, points are awarded as follows:

• 1st place - 5 points
• 2nd place - 2 points
• 3rd place - 0 points

Once all 3 games have been played, the player with the most points shall be the winner, the next highest will be 2nd and the lowest number will be 3rd.

In case of a tie for any position, a 4th machine (not one of the 3 player's choice machines) shall be chosen by the organisers to play a deciding game.
